About

Welcome!

My name is Jonathan Nichols. I am a web developer in Dayton, Ohio. I worked for 6 years for Apologia Educational Ministries. There I started as technical support, then worked my way up to developer, system admin, and network admin, as well as still doing tech support. At Apologia I was able to hone my skills in ASP and ASP.Net. I was also able to work with many Windows systems from 98 through XP and Windows Server 2003 and the database systems MySQL and Access.

In November 2008 I left that position to go work for Nova Creative Group as a web developer. With Nova I have worked on many sites for local, regional, and state organizations. I have been able to sharpen my understanding of PHP and have been able to work on the Mac operating system. I also work closely with web designers to take Photoshop files and convert them to valid XHTML code. I also work with the CMS CMS Made Simple and have learned many of the ins and outs of that system. I have even developed two modules, one which integrated a membership payment system and another which updates your Twitter account when a new news article, blog, or event has been posted. The former was for a single client while the other will be released more broadly once testing is completed.

I have been nominated for an Innovation award from PHPClasses.org. I, sadly, did not win, however, there was definitely some stiff competition. The class I developed would send a SOAP request to the DOTS FastTax system and parse the return information into an associate array for easier use. I also developed a class to parse CSV files and allow the developer to manipulate the data using functions similar to the PHP ADODB class.

I have also become adept as ActionScript 3 programming. I will be posting samples soon.
